Flickr  is a popular source of images for some of our students. Talking with them, they find it convenient to upload to flickr from their mobile phones and to share with friends. We had an interesting discussion about privacy and the sharing of photos.   Flickr  has many photos which have creative commons licence.   Personally it is a way of sharing family photos with those who live interstate or travelling overseas.

Vimeo is a good alternative to youtube.  Students can search for videos with creative commons licences which helps to reinforce to students the need to include attribution when they reuse and remix these videos.  Often they have to be directed to vimeo but once used they will come back.

The education notes available for video clips in Australian screen makes it very teacher friendly – you don’t have to reinvent the wheel.  I had an interesting discussion with our media studies teacher who finds it useful for the unit on the history of film and television.  I can also see where it has useful resources for history, issues and debating.
